New Albany Family Law Attorney Farrah Alexander
I focus my practice on family law, including divorce, child custody, child support, parenting time, guardianships, paternity, and related matters. These are the most personal and important issues many people will ever face, and I believe families deserve compassionate guidance and practical solutions during such times. When you come to me, I provide clear explanations, careful preparation, and steady advocacy so that you can move forward with confidence.
A phrase that inspires my work comes from the Torah and was displayed in Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s office: Tzedek, tzedek tirdof — “Justice, justice, you shall pursue.” This principle guides how I approach advocacy and client service. I consider it an honor when families place their trust in me to protect their children, relationships, and future. Every family has its own story, and I strive to approach each matter with care, compassion, and attention to the details that matter most.
Before joining Mattox & Wilson, I built a strong foundation in both family law and civil rights litigation. During law school, I worked as a student attorney at the Ackerson Clinic, where I represented survivors of domestic violence in emergency protective order hearings. In family law, I supported clients navigating divorce, custody, and other sensitive family matters by drafting motions, preparing for hearings, and working closely with individuals during some of the most pivotal moments of their lives. I also gained significant experience at Saeed & Little, a firm nationally recognized for its work in civil rights litigation, where I contributed to complex cases with broad constitutional implications. In addition, I served with the ACLU of Kentucky, conducting research, drafting briefs, and assisting in challenges that tested fundamental civil liberties. Collectively, these experiences sharpened my advocacy skills, deepened my understanding of the courtroom process, and affirmed my commitment to delivering justice through thoughtful, client-centered representation.
At the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law, I graduated cum laude while distinguishing myself through leadership and academic achievement. I was elected President of the American Constitutional Society, selected as a pupil of the Brandeis Inn of Court, and served on the DEIB Council, where I helped advance equity and inclusion initiatives. I also worked as a Teaching Assistant, mentoring students and contributing to the academic community.
In addition to my legal practice, I am an author and writer. My books include Raising the Resistance: A Mother’s Guide to Practical Activism and Resistance in the Bluegrass. My writing has been featured in national outlets such as HuffPost, Oprah Magazine, and Scary Mommy, and has been discussed in media including Scientific American and the BBC. This background as a communicator helps me craft strong legal arguments and present clients’ stories effectively in court.
Community service is also an important part of who I am. I serve on the Board of the ACLU of Kentucky and the Jewish Community Relations Council, and I have volunteered with organizations dedicated to inclusion, safety, and justice. These experiences shape the perspective I bring to every case, where I strive to find fair and constructive solutions.
Outside of my practice, I enjoy life just across the river from Louisville with my husband, son, and daughter. We spend time exploring state and national parks, sharing books, and occasionally winding down with a favorite reality show. My own experiences as a spouse and parent give me perspective and empathy that I carry into my work, allowing me to better understand the challenges families face and the importance of creating solutions that truly serve their best interests.
If you are facing a family law matter, whether it involves divorce, custody, child support, guardianship, or any other related issue, I welcome the opportunity to meet with you and discuss how I can help.
